This type of Long Exposure Photography is created in bright ambient light instead of shooting at night. Long Exposure Photography is unique because it mixes blurred motion with sharp details, presented in bright ambient lighting.
A quick tip: Practical exercise to understand shutter speed and Long Exposure Photography
- Place the camera on a tripod, table, or another place where it can stand steady
- Set the shutter speed to 1/1000 and ask someone to walk across the frame (or use a delayed shutter and do it yourself)
- Adjust the shutter speed to 1/500 and repeat
- Repeat but this time using even slower shutter speeds such as 1/200, 1/20, 1/5 and end with 1 second

- Camera with manual functions
- A sturdy tripod
- A remote shutter release
- Neutral Density filters
Setting up and shooting Long Exposure Photography
- Make the composition
- Apply the normal settings
- Take a test shot
- Switch to manual focus and settings
- Mount the filter in front of the lens
- Calculate the new shutter speed
